Top Up with a Talk Over the Tools
This week is Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW), and the theme for 2025 is Top Up Together, a reminder that we’re all stronger when we connect and support one another.
The campaign builds on the nationwide Top Up wellbeing movement, encouraging us to bring the Five Ways to Wellbeing into our daily lives. These five simple, evidence-based actions help us find balance, build resilience, and boost our overall wellbeing, and they fit naturally into the roofing trade.
The Five Ways to Wellbeing
Connect / Me whakawhanaunga
Roofing is built on teamwork, whether you’re working on a roof, in the office, or running a crew. Taking time to talk, listen, and check in with your mates helps strengthen those bonds that keep us safe and supported.
Give / Tukua
A simple act of generosity, a hand on site, sharing knowledge, or just being there for someone, can make a real difference. Giving builds trust and a sense of belonging across our teams and our wider industry.
Be active / Me kori tonu
Roofing is already a physical job, but being active isn’t just about work. Whether it’s a walk after hours, a game with the kids, or heading out for a surf, moving your body helps lift your mood and clear your head.
Take notice / Me aro tonu
It’s easy to rush from one job to the next, but taking a moment to pause, to notice the view from the roof, or appreciate a job well done, helps you stay grounded and grateful.
Keep learning / Me ako tonu
Whether it’s upskilling, trying new materials, products or systems, or stepping into leadership, learning keeps our minds active and our industry evolving. Every new skill adds confidence, and connection.
Social connection gives us a sense of belonging, purpose, and value. It helps us feel part of something bigger, which is what our industry and the RANZ community are all about.
So this Mental Health Awareness Week, take a moment to Top Up with a Talk Over the Tools. Check in with your team, share a laugh, and lend a hand, on site, at home, and in your community.
